I’m mostly just left wondering when we as a society are going to stop putting this glossy sheen over the Civil Rights era and when white people will stop patting themselves on the back for being so damn wonderful for giving people the rights they deserve and when we can move on to realize that if the power balance is to ever even out, then white people will have to stop putting their own racism up on a damn pedestal as some beacon of how far we have come as a nation because a) racism still exists b) we need to look back on our historical mistakes with a sense of shame that such movements were necessary in the first place
